Reading the list of ingredients, I noted that the tuna is packed not only in water, but also in "vegetable broth." Broth? Not just water?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to the Starkist web site(&lt;a href="http://www.starkist.com/template.asp?section=faqs.html"&gt;http://www.starkist.com/template.asp?section=faqs.html&lt;/a&gt;):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Vegetable broth is added to some StarKist® Tuna products as a flavor enhancer. The broth must consist of two or more of the following: beans, cabbage, carrots, celery, garlic, onions, parsley, peas, potatoes, green or red bell peppers, spinach, or tomatoes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you have dietary restrictions or allergies to any of these ingredients, you might want to try StarKist® Low Sodium Chunk Light or Very Low Sodium Chunk White Tuna (which contains only tuna and water). Also, Gourmet Choice™ Solid Light Tuna Fillet, packed in water or olive oil, does not contain vegetable broth."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, let this serve as a reminder that soy can lurk anywhere. I haven't been able to check the other flavors of the new Wheat Thins Flatbread, so be sure to check labels if your store doesn't carry the "Tuscan Herb" flavor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the back of the box, they show a "Bruschetta Pizza" recipe idea, but to make it milk-free, I recommend simply spreading some sun-dried tomato paste on the cracker and topping with some basil or baby spinach some packaged bread that does not contain any milk or soy ingredients. I know how frustrating this can be, which is why I've been searching the store shelves to find one to recommend.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It turns out there is a bread that you can eat, but you may not be able to find it easily unless you live in a major market that has a Whole Foods Grocery Store or a German ethnic grocery store.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mestemacher Bread - A pre-packaged, hearty, whole-grain German bread. And while it's mostly filled with fun and festivity, it is also a time when flu bugs and digestive problems make their rounds thanks to all the hugging &amp;amp; kissing going on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But if you are a nursing mother who finds herself battling digestive problems, at least the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce &amp;amp; toast) diet is dairy and soy-free. Except for the toast. Watch out for the hidden soybean oil and soy lecithin in most sliced breads!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you need the BRAT diet and can't find a suitable sliced bread for toasting, I am a big fan of &lt;a href="http://www.carrs-online.com/cgi-bin/brandpages/product.pl?brand=439&amp;amp;company=140"&gt;CARR'S TABLE WATER CRACKERS&lt;/a&gt;, which contain no milk or soy products and are easy for a sensitive stomach to digest. Even their Table Water Crackers with Sesame Seeds or with Roasted Garlic &amp;amp; Herbs are good for nursing mothers who need to avoid milk and soy. CARR'S Whole Wheat Crackers are also milk/soy-free.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Note: many of CARR'S other types of crackers contain traces of milk or soy products, so stick with the Table Water Cracker varieties or the Whole Wheat Crackers. allergy and usually outgrow it. (&lt;a href="http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/medical/allergies/milk_allergy.html" target="_blank"&gt;citation&lt;/a&gt;) And according to Dr. Alan Greene, at least 30% of infants with cow's-milk allergy are also allergic to soy. (&lt;a href="http://www.drgreene.com/21_1241.html" target="_blank"&gt;citation&lt;/a&gt;) When you consider that 4 million babies were born in 2003 in the United States alone (&lt;a href="http://mchb.hrsa.gov/whusa_05/pages/0425lb.htm" target="_blank"&gt;citation&lt;/a&gt;), this equals approximately 24,000 new babies each year with both milk and soy allergies or sensitivities.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I was breastfeeding my new daughter, my husband and I (thanks to our pediatrician) discovered she had food sensitivity issues with milk and soy proteins. I had to either cut milk and soy products from my diet, or stop breastfeeding my baby and switch completely to hypo-allergenic formula.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Completely switching to formula was not an option for me, so I began eliminating milk and soy products from my diet - including butter, cream, cheese, and all soybean oils! I became exasperated, wondering "What can I eat?" and nearly bursting into tears in the middle of the grocery store trying to find a single loaf of bread that did not contain milk, casein, whey or soy, including soybean oil.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was overwhelmed. I had to completely re-think eating and grocery shopping. I lost so much weight in two weeks, my milk production decreased. I was not getting enough calories.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Slowly, I learned which brands made products without soy or milk products. Slowly, I made a list of what I could eat as quick snacks. Slowly, I developed my own way of cooking that enabled me &amp;amp; my husband to get enough calories without causing allergic reactions in our baby.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I began to find online message boards with other nursing mom stories like mine. Lack of food options, frustrated grocery store trips.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I created the &lt;a href="http://www.nursingmomrecipes.com"&gt;Nursing Mom Recipes&lt;/a&gt; web site for those moms.
